Doug Holderfield, Owner and General Manager of Weevil 101, began his broadcasting career in 1958 at WFPA in Ft. Payne, Alabama.  Like many others, he started at the bottom as a part-timer and worked his way up the ladder, later becoming General Manager of that station.  Over the years, Doug also worked at WGAD in Gadsden, AL; WPLK in Rockmart, GA; WIYN in Rome, GA; WPXE in Starke, FL; and WZOB in Ft. Payne, AL.  At one point he served as GM of WFPA and a local newspaper, The Dekalb County News.   In 1969, Doug moved to Elba, Alabama, and purchased WELB-AM, which he still owns today.  In 1986 Doug received the first permit in Alabama under the FCC 80-90 Docket for a Class A FM station, and WZTZ-FM was born.  In June 2006 WZTZ moved to Enterpise and became WVVL "Weevil 101".  Under his leadership, Weevil 101 remains the only locally-owned Country station in the area. "Uncle Doug" as he was known during his on-air years appreciates all the listeners and the businesses that faithfully support the station.
